An energy-focused investment fund is looking for a highly motivated individual to join its team. Operating within a well-established investment platform, the fund actively invests across the energy value chain—including upstream, midstream, downstream, and oilfield services—through positions in credit, equities, and commodities.
The role involves supporting portfolio managers by building and refining fundamental models and market signals.
Over time, this position is expected to evolve from a modelling-focused role into one that contributes directly to investment ideas. The individual will also collaborate with the broader team to support the overall portfolio strategy.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and enhance quantitative models that forecast fundamental supply and demand dynamics in the U.S., Canadian, and global natural gas and power markets
- Conduct in-depth research to validate models and ensure their effectiveness, with a strong sense of ownership over your work
- Create innovative methods of analyzing data to generate actionable market insights
- Streamline and automate existing workflows, while evaluating and integrating third-party data sources
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision
- Demonstrate a strong interest in the energy sector and take initiative in expanding your role within the team
- Perform ad hoc analyses as directed by senior team members
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (engineering, mathematics, physics preferred); coursework in economics or finance is a plus
- At least 2 years of experience in energy investing or analytics, ideally within a trading environment
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R
- Strong analytical mindset, self-starter attitude, and a desire to grow in an investment-driven setting
